Tested: WOODLOT Nourishing Soap Bars ( Original Charcoal, Recharge), Coconut Wax Blend Candles (Cascadia, Flora), & Calming Mist (Rose & Palo Santo)

I've a little secret that I've been keeping from you guys.  I'm addicted to candles and pretty much all kinds of bits and bobs that make a home feel homier.  You guys are more familiar with the side of me that loves clean skincare. If a brand merges both of my addictions in such an aesthetically pleasing way, you can bet I would be eager to give it a test run and report it here for you to read.  When Woodlot, a Canadian brand specializing in home, bath, and body products, contacted me to see if I was interested in testing their products, I eagerly jumped on the opportunity.  Not only did I admire their story (original steeped in family tradition while keeping future generations in mind), I was also very impressed with their clean, unisex aesthetic.  As I waited for the mail, I hoped that the quality and performance of their products would be as luxe as their packaging.  I wasn't just satisfied, I was blown away.

Candles:

Experience: I'm quite picky with candles.  I like them to be clean burning, long lasting, and scented enough to fill the whole room with its aroma.  Woodlot candles ticked off all of my requirements though some aspects were stronger than others.  I personally love when a candle has a cap on it so that I may keep it for future uses without dust getting on the top of the candle.  I burned both candles for about 2 hours each initially and did not experience any problems with the candle funneling.  I could smell the candle from the moment I entered my room, however, I usually prefer when a candle has an extremely strong aroma from the get go and I had to burn this a bit longer to smell the scent from a far away distance.  I believe that if I had used the larger size of the candle, the aroma could possibly reach beyond my room or the scent would have been more potent.  However, I find that this size still burns enough to give the room a nice scent.

Woodlot Flora Candle Jar

Scent:  I thought that I would prefer this scent over Cascadia, however, I much prefer Cascadia over Flora.  The reason being that Flora includes lavender as a large component of its scent blend.  I am personally not a huge fan of lavender, but I can most definitely see lavender-lovers enjoying this scent immensely.  It is truly a floral blend as the name denotes and it is perfect all year round, but especially cozy for the upcoming winter time! It is extremely fresh with its orange and bergamot scents and calming with the lavender and cedarwood.

Ingredients: organic coconut wax, soy wax, lavender essential oil, sweet orange essential oil, bergamot essential oil, cedarwood essential oil + patchouli essential oil

Woodlot Cascadia Candle Jar

Scent: I am addicted to Cascadia.  I never thought that I would be one to be drawn to such a woody scent, however, I find that this scent is so relaxing and gives the perfect ambiance for a cozy fall/winter day.  I've been burning this candle non-stop on any day that is cold enough to do so.  Granted, it still feels like summer time here in Los Angeles, so I've been reserving this for those special mornings when I am forced to wake up at 6 AM in the morning when it is still dark and chilly outside.  I'll definitely be burning this throughout the day during winter time and you can bet I'm reserving this for Christmas (and, perhaps, some of my friends will be seeing some Woodlot in their gifts)!  Obsessed is probably a huge understatement!  This scent was inspired by a road trip that the founders took from Vancouver to San Diego and that fact hit close to home for me as my Alma Mater is in San Diego and I can clearly see why this scent would be perfect for the invigorating sense of adventure mixed with calm that San Diego embodies.

Ingredients: organic coconut wax, non-gmo soy wax, fir essential oil, cedarwood essential oil, sandalwood fragrance oil (phthalate free) + patchouli essential oil

Woodlot Rose & Palo Santo Mist

Consistency: This mist is a soothing mixture of rose and palo santo that is meant to be sprayed anywhere from your face to your pillows.  The ingredients are simple and clean.  I love how straightforward the mist is in both ingredients and functionality.  This smells strongly of fresh roses, not the powdery scent that can so often irritate my nose.  The spray nozzle works well to depart a fine mist and I do not find the mist having any issues with leaving a sticky residue.

Ingredients: Rose Hydrosol, Witch Hazel, Palo Santo Essential Oil, Rose Geranium Essential Oil.

Experience:  I've been able to find many uses for this mist.  This has served as a calming post-wash facial mist, a room spray for those days when I feel that the room is a bit musty, a spray to freshen up the clothes I don't wash as often, and a body spray to continue the relaxation I experienced from a warm shower.  I love how multi-purpose this product is so it is no wonder that it has quickly become a staple in my home.  I am usually picky with rose scents but I find that this scent comes across very well without being too overwhelming.  I plan on re-using this bottle once it is done as I can't bear to throw away the bottle.

Soap:

Consistency:  Woodlot soaps are a minimalist's dream come true.  Clean, simple, and substantial in weight, I absolutely fell in love with their soaps upon first sight.  Sonia, the co-owner of Woodlot, had previously mentioned to me that she was particularly in love with their soap bars and I can wholeheartedly see why.  The soaps are not too waxy or slippery when they are dry.  When the soap bars are wet, they lather very nicely but are not so slippery that they fall out of your hands and cause a bathroom disaster.  I decided to cut pieces of the soap as I used them so that I did not have to use the entire block at once.  The soap bar is a truly generous size and I can see it lasting for a long while.

Woodlot Original Charcoal Soap Bar

Experience:  The Original Charcoal soap did not have any discernible scent when I was using it.  My favorite aspect of this soap was, again, the multi functionality of the product.  I love that about Woodlot products and I find that it makes their products worthwhile to purchase.  I enjoyed using this on both my face and body.  As someone who suffers from both acne and the very dreaded bacne, I found that this product truly saved my skin without stripping the skin.  This helped keep my breakouts at bay all the while being tough enough to use on the body but gentle enough to use on the face. Sure, a skincare newbie might have been concerned with the black water dripping down the drain, but I've loved charcoal since the day I discovered it and this bar has really elevated my expectations of charcoal products.

Ingredients:
Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Sodium Hydroxide (Lye), Shea Butter, Cocoa Seed Butter, Activated Bamboo Charcoal, Vanilla Essential Oil, Orange Essential Oil, Cedarwood Essential Oil, Fir Essential Oil, Pine Essential Oil, Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Woodlot Recharge Soap Bar

Experience: I'm a huge fan of peppermint so it should come as no surprise that I loved using the Recharge soap bar both in the mornings and at night.  I found that this really helped to energize me in the mornings through the fresh peppermint scent and it did double duty at night as it calmed and reinvigorated my senses perfectly in preparation to my pre-night ritual( toner, moisturizer, you know the drill).  This did an amazing job giving me that squeaky clean feeling(my skin literally squeaked in the shower) without drying out my skin.  While that may be the case for me, I can see this being too drying for dry-skinned guys and girls.  I truly appreciate a good clean, and I despise feeling any kind of residue post-shower, so this squeaky clean feeling was a very welcome surprise. Out of the two, however, I much prefer the Charcoal soap bar as it helps with my skin concerns along with providing a clean wash.

Ingredients
Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Sodium Hydroxide (Lye), Shea Butter, Cocoa Seed Butter, Peppermint Essential Oil + Rosemary Essential Oil

Brand Overview:

I thoroughly enjoyed everything that I tested from the brand.  I love how effective, clean, and simple their products are and the multi-use function of many products really takes it to another level.  I especially enjoy that any of their products are unisex so that it is perfect for any friend, significant other, or home no matter if you live with your significant other or family.  Lastly, it's clear that their message really translates in their products and I respect that they use clean, traditional methods to prepare their products but understand that their customers are the next generation and truly give us a product that is clean and chic without compromising function.

  3. Thank you for this very thorough review! I loo♥oove how they use essential oils and not so much fragrance oils. Fragrance oil candles you can basically find anywhere. There's no point to using something that releases VOCs. Just. no. point. So I'm glad this company has cleaner, therapeutic options. I thought candles were a thing of the past for me because of my lung issues and how they seem to loathe synthetic fragrances. I'm so glad I read this post. You've sold me!! I'm going to check out their website now! :)
