Tested: Beauty Heroes Box September: Kahina Giving Beauty Eye Serum & Facial Lotion

I love a good subscription box but I hate the feeling of waiting for goodies only to be met with fillers.  You can imagine, then, that I was wary of signing up for Beauty Heroes, a new green subscription box.  It first piqued my interest when I saw all of the quality full-sized products my fellow green beauty bloggers were getting in the mail.  I decided to wait a bit so that I could make a conscious decision if this box was worth the commitment.   Then, l'amour et la musique from Youtube became an ambassador for the box and generously offered a coupon code for her viewers which was too good not to jump on.  The point of all of this is to serve as a background to the skepticism that I had up until I opened my first box from them containing two products from Kahina Giving Beauty (a brand I had been itching to test).  I am completely blown away by the selection and quality of Beauty Heroes and you can bet I’ll be a subscriber for a while.  These two products, the eye serum and facial lotion, have also been quick favorites in my beauty collection.  Read on to see how I’ve gotten along with these products!

L: Kahina Giving Beauty Eye Serum   R: Kahina Giving Beauty Facial Lotion

Consistency: This eye serum is so dreamy.  It comes out of the pump as a light yellow gel and blends out to evenly moisturize your under eyes without leaving any sticky residue.  In fact, I am so addicted to this eye serum because of its mega moisturizing effects without any of the heaviness that is so unpleasant for the delicate skin underneath your eyes.  This does not have any discernible smell.

Ingredients:
Aqua, Betaine, Saccharomyces cerevisiae extract, Rhodiola rosea root extract, Argania spinosa (argan) oil* glycerin*, Populus tremuloides (aspen) bark extract, Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Polygonum fagopyrum extract, Hexapeptide-11, Sodium hyaluronate, Argania spinosa (argan) leaf extract, Maltodextrin, Olea europaea (olive) leaf extract, Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract*, Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil*, Hydrogenated lecithin, Sclerotium gum, Xanthan gum, P-anisic acid *Ingredient from Organic Farming

Experience:  I call this my liquid gold.  I've had love affairs with cream eye creams before experiencing Kahina, but this eye serum literally kicks the others out of the pond.  I've found that this .5 oz bottle will last me quite a long time since I only need the tiniest drop on my fingertips to cover both of my under eyes.  This product promises long lasting moisture, decreased puffiness, and a dose of collagen boosting ingredients.  I'd definitely agree that I experience a nice, moisturized under eye for longer than other eye creams I'd tried before.  However, I did not notice a huge difference with the puffiness of my under eyes.  Granted, I struggle more with dark circles than puffiness under my eyes so I cannot accurately account for that claim.  I will have to see the collagen boosting effects after long term use of this product as I don't have any wrinkles right now to report on.  I do, however, notice that my under eye concealer undergoes less creasing throughout the day once I started using this product.  From my understanding, dark circles can only be truly fixed by sleep patterns so my conclusion is that the strongest action of this eye serum is its incredibly light yet effectively moisturizing capabilities.  This gel is just so incredibly comfortable under and around my eyes and I can't help but to reach for this to get that shot of moisture for the night or day.  I would definitely repurchase this (if the price was lower or if I had a coupon/promo code)!

Consistency: This lotion is, again, moisturizing yet lightweight.  I feel that moisturizing while being lightweight is Kahina's strong suit.  This lotion comes out of the pump feeling not too thick or thin in consistency.  The dry down is the most interesting property of this lotion as it settles into a matte finish over the skin.  I would not recommend this to very dry-skinned people as the dry down may not feel as comfortable for those who already have dry skin as opposed to those with combination or oily skin.  This product has no scent.

Ingredients:
Water, Argan Oil*, Glycerin, Japanese Honeysuckle Extract*, Shea Butter*, Sodium PCA, Sorbitan Olivate, Xanthan Gum, Betaine, Acacia Gum, Behenyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Argan Leaf Extract, Lecithin*, Beeswax*, Phospholipids, Glycolipids, Soybean Oil, Soybean Sterols, Levulinic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lactic Acid *Ingredient from Organic Farming 95% of botanical ingredients are organic; 100% natural *Ingredient from Organic Farming

Experience: I enjoy using this facial lotion as a night time moisturizer since I prefer something a bit more dewy as my morning moisturizer to be a good base for my makeup.  I love how it gives me a clean, matte finish before I go to sleep as I dislike going to sleep with any heavy or thick feeling on my skin (which is why I tend to shy away from heavy creams).  Although it is more matte than other lotions, this still does a wonderful job of moisturizing the skin and I am left with supple skin the morning after.  This product also claims to help protect from environmental stressers which is something I desperately need as I am in the downtown LA area for most of my week.  I haven't noticed any significant changes to my complexion after using this. While it is a great moisturizer with a finish that I enjoy, I have not seen any results that show a benefit to my skin so I may not repurchase this.
