Juice Beauty Photo Pigments Makeup and Skincare Review

Juice Beauty has always been on my radar ever since the day that I tried their Blemish Clearing cleanser (which was well-loved).  Since then, I've not been too familiar with their line until I became very intrigued by their recent collaboration with Gwyneth Paltrow on their Photo Pigments makeup line.  I was elated when they sent me a package full of products from their Photo Pigments line and their skincare.  I'm usually so picky with my skincare so I was very excited to see how theirs would hold up on my skin. This is a comprehensive review of all of the recent products I own from their Photo Pigments line as well as their Anti-Wrinkle skincare line! That includes the mascara, creme blush, lipstick, lip crayon, primer, and foundation from the Photo Pigments line.  It also includes the Stem Cellular serum, cream, cleansing oil, and under eye mask! If you're ready for this massive review, go ahead and click below!

Experience:
I didn't expect to fall in love with any of the skincare.  Honestly, my skin can be incredibly picky sometimes.  I can truly say that this Anti-Wrinkle booster serum has become one of my favorite serums as of late (and this is coming from someone who prefers serums over any other skincare item).  The serum is light and gel-like with a smooth  and refreshing consistency once applied to the face.  I love how it feels so light on the skin and absorbs so quickly without leaving any tacky residue.  I have been using their Anti-Wrinkle serum and cream moisturizer duo for the past month and I only have good things to say about them.  I'll highlight the most important benefits I've seen from these.  Firstly,  I never broke out or had any irritated red patches from these two products.  Second, I did find that they helped even out some of the small wrinkles I'd developed under my eyes as I smiled as well as on my smile lines.  They were not too prominent beforehand, but the serum and cream moisturizer noticeably helped reduce the appearance of these lines.  Third, this combo left my skin so plump and radiant as well as soft.  I honestly didn't think I needed this specific line of skincare since I always gravitate towards acne fighting products, but I must say that this particular duo has blown me away on all fronts.

Experience:
This cream moisturizer comes in a fun and sanitary pump dispenser (quite like Kate Somerville's dispensers for her moisturizers).  I love how light and absorbent this cream is and I find it to pair incredibly well with the also-very-light booster serum.  I already finished raving about the improvements these products have given my skin above.  I would also like to point out the amazing ingredients of both products.  Organic apple juice, organic white grape juice, organic lemon juice, organic allow leaf juice, grape buds, Vitamins C, B5 and E are all included in this knockout moisturizer.  That's pure nourishment and a bit of exfoliation right there.

Helianthus annuus (organic sunflower seed oil)*, caprylic/capric triglyceride, polysorbate 80, vitis vinifera (organic grapeseed oil)*, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (Vitamin C), tocopherol (Vitamin E), organic juices of pyrus malus (organic apple juice)*, citrus medica limonum (organic lemon juice)*, malus domestica (apple buds), vitis vinifera (grape buds) & citrus limonum (lemon bark), litsea cubeba (may chang) and cinnamomum camphora (ho wood) pure essential oils.

Experience:
This cleansing oil wasn't exactly my favorite.  While I appreciate a good oil that cleanses and purifies the skin from makeup, I also really need a cleanser thats fast and easy to use.  I'd rather wash off with water over a muslin cloth, for example.  This oil works great with a muslin cloth but I found it to be heavier than other cleansing oils I've used.  It does remove makeup but I also found that there was still a bit of eye makeup left on the cotton pad once I had finished my first cleanse with this product.  In short, I do think that there are better cleansers out there.

Stem Cellular Instant Eye Lift Algae Mask*

Ingredients:
Activator Fluid: Juice Beauty proprietary blend of fruit stem cells: apple buds, grape buds & lemon bark. aloe barbadensis (organic aloe juice)*, vegetable glycerin, leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate, malus sylvestris (apple buds), vitis vinifera (grape buds) & citrus limonum (lemon bark), xanthan gum, sodium alginate, vitis vinifera (grapeseed extract), sodium hyaluronate (vegetable hyaluronic acid), magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (Vitamin C), organic botanical extracts of cucumis sativus (organic cucumber extract)*, camellia sinensis (organic white tea leaf extract)*, chamomilla recutita (organic chamomile extract)*, lavandula angustifolia (organic lavender extract)*, calendula officinalis (organic marigold flower extract)*, arnica montana (organic arnica flower extract)* *certified organic ingredient
Mask: algin, cellulose gum, vegetable glycerin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, citric acid, sorbitol

Experience:
This is a super fun eye mask! The eye mask pads are activated by the included Activator Fluid. You let them soak for a few minutes then place the wet eye pads underneath your eyes. I let them sit there for 10 to 15 minutes then I remove them and place them on my smile lines.  I find them to be incredibly moisturizing and nourishing.  I will say, however, that they're very delicate so handle them with care!

Photo Pigments Makeup Line

Photo Pigments Illuminating Primer*

Experience:
I liked this primer but I didn't think that it was mind blowing.  This primer never broke me out and I do enjoy the very light and gel-like consistency it has versus the traditional silicon-like primers (which I am not the biggest fan of).  I liked that this primer layered well with other products without pilling, which is a problem I've had with previous primers I've tried.  While light, it is also hydrating and it does give a bit more glow.  It did give me a nice glow, but the glow wasn't so noticeable that I'd say this product stood out by itself.  It did not noticeably make my makeup last longer.  So yes, if you're in the market for a light primer that plays well with other products in your skincare and makeup arsenal, then I'd say this is a good bet.  If you're looking for your up-all-night makeup saver, this may not be the one.

Experience:
I love this foundation!  This may be my favorite clean beauty foundation to date.  I find that this is light, gentle on sensitive skin,  buildable when need be, and sets to a nice satin finish that can be set with powder or can go without powder.  This is an incredibly well-performing foundation that also feels good on the skin.  On good skin days, I find that I almost don't need to touch up with concealer once I've worn the foundation.  On days when I'm breaking out, this foundation works well with my cream concealer to balance out my complexion in a natural way.  The color match with Cream is very accurate for my skin tone which is a neutral fair-light shade.  I'm usually between the first and second lightest colors in most foundations and this is the third lightest foundation so be aware of this range running a bit light.  This foundation doesn't set so fast that its hard to blend but it does set very lightly so that it is barely felt on the skin.  I'm always looking for comfortable foundations like this that still provide medium coverage and I find that this formula also layers well on itself for those areas that need a bit more coverage without looking cakey.  Overall, this is a win for me.

Experience:
Again, this is a knockout product from there Photo Pigments range.  This nude beige blush is perfect for a natural flush on the cheeks for everyday wear.  This is a very light cream formula that is ultra blendable and sets to a nice satin finish that isn't tacky at all.  I love cream blushes that are able to blend seamlessly into the skin while setting in a way that the cheeks don't feel like there's a heavy cream product on it.  This product does the job and in such a naturally glowing way.  The color also lasts throughout my entire day outside which is around 8 hours give or take.  I've also used some powder blush products on top to create different custom colors and I find that this product works well with the different powder blushes as well.

Experience:
Lipstick is one of my favorite makeup products, as you know.  The formula for this lipstick is very moisturizing and nourishing on the lips.  It isn't sticky but it also isn't transfer proof.  This will still get on cups and bowls and will need to be retouched after a few (2-3) hours of wear.  I find that this color, Blush, is a beautiful everyday My Lips But Better nude.  It is a nice nude pink that works well with several looks and it's very pigmented.  I just need one swipe to see full color payoff.  I like to wear this day to day because it really pulls together my look without making it look over the top.  It also doesn't stain my lips with color, which is something the I sometimes prefer.  Final thoughts are that this is a great moisturizing lipstick especially for those with dry lips.  I do wish it stayed on the lips for longer but I also can't complain with a good few hours of wear! The packaging is also ultra chic in a metal silver tube that matches well with the aesthetic of the rest of the line.

Photo Pigments Luminous Lip Crayon (Laguna)*

Experience:
I loved this lip crayon more than the lip cream due to the consistency.  This lip crayon is a bit drier than the lip cream and so it had more lasting power throughout the day.  This is also a beautiful mauve pink color that is a darker My Lips But Better color for those days when you have a soft eye look.  This mauve pairs with with the usual brown eyeshadows that I sport so I do enjoy wearing it day to day.  This lip crayon is also not transfer resistant, but I find that it really does stay on the lips for longer and does leave a little stain behind that darkens my lip color to be a bit more mauve (which is a look that I enjoy).

This was my least favorite product of all of the products I tried from Juice Beauty.  That's a shame since I was so in love with and impressed with the rest of their line!  I found that this mascara did nothing for my lashes and it just darkened them without giving them more length or volume.  I also found it to be quite messy on application.  The packaging of the product is beautiful,  but the formulation inside just didn't work well with my lashes.  The brush type is a fluttery, wave shape that usually does work well with my eyelashes, but maybe it was the formula that just didn't suit me.  I do know, however, that mascara is a VERY individualistic makeup experience.  What does not work for me may work wonders on your own eyelashes.  I also found that this smudged a bit by the end of the test day.  Either way,  this is just my own personal experience with this mascara.

Final Thoughts:
There were so many new favorite makeup and skincare products that I discovered through this testing process!  Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the Juice Beauty products.  I'd also like to give a special shout out to the ULTRA clean ingredients that are in each of their products.  Seriously, just scroll up and take a look at the makeup ingredients alone!  Truly noteworthy.  I'm excited to see what is in store for Juice Beauty as a brand this coming year, and especially if they will be expanding their makeup line! Please let me know if you've had any personal experiences with Juice Beauty and if you have any recommendations!

Big Love,

Vanessa

  2. Vanessa--great review and thank you! A few notes. The instant eye lift masks are actually pressed/freeze dried algae--so you are right they are a bit fragile but amazing! The mascara is probably the only high organic content/non coal tar carbon black mascara with staying power--Gwyneth loves it and it just won a big award in a major magazine that will be announced soon. You might try letting it dry between applications for a second or two. THANKS Juice Beauty founder--Karen Behnke

    1. Thanks so much for your input, Karen!
I completely see the appeal of the mascara, it just didn't work well for my own lashes! It was fine during application and even as I allowed it to dry in between coats. I just personally prefer a more dramatic look and this gave my lashes a my-lash-but-better look. I have plenty of friends who use the Phyto Pigments mascara and love it! I'm also sure that it looks quite different from person to person.

Thank you for following up with the post. It's greatly appreciated!

      Big love,
