[CCC] Current Curated Collection: About Hair

While I may seem high maintenance with my skincare routine, I am the absolute worst at keeping up a good hair regimen or spending more than a minute or two on my hair in the mornings.  Given that I've recently gotten a new chop (check it out on INSTA), I decided to really up the ante and start a good relationship between me and my hair.  Easier said than done, but here's to trying!  I've compiled a current curated collection of my haircare musts into one post for your concise reading pleasure and I hope this will be a great starting point for not only me but for you to begin caring for that beautiful mane of yours.

The Currents:

COCOPALM NATURAL SHAMPOO -  The shampoo and conditioner (treatment) both have an amazing fruity floral scent that I love.  The Cocopalm shampoo and treatment scent are both products I chanced upon as I was walking around Little Tokyo.  I was just about to finish the Honeyce shampoo and conditioner (HERE) and was on the hunt for something new to test.  I found this as a more natural option to other shampoos in the beauty boutique.  I won't lie, the gorgeous packaging drew me in but the sales assistant reaffirmed my purchase by insisting it helped keep her hair voluminous.  Volume, my friends, is one of the first things I look for as a beneficial factor in any shampoo purchase.  I've tested this shampoo out for a few months now and my conclusion is mixed with pros and cons.  I would generally recommend this for those with easily oily hair or fine hair as I feel that this does help to add volume, however, I'd suggest drier haired girls to stay away from this shampoo.  Case in point, I absolutely loved the results it gave me when I had my previous hairstyle but now that I've cut layers into my hair and had a digital perm this shampoo does not cut it in the moisturizing department any longer.  I find that I need to slather on jojoba oil afterwards while my hair is still wet in order to keep the moisture in my hair.  I would use this shampoo once my hair texture reverts back to the oily texture it had before I had my hair done but I am also curious to try other more natural shampoo brands so I may skip the repurchase so I can test out other products.

COCOPALM NATURAL TREATMENT- This treatment works as a great conditioner for the more oily-haired girls but I find that the moisturizing ability would be a bit lacking for those with drier hair.  I have used the Acure Moroccan Argan Oil conditioner before and have experienced a more moisturizing effect from that product than this treatment.  However, I loved how this treatment never weighed my hair down and always allowed it to be more voluminous after each wash.  In comparison, the Acure Moroccan Argan Oil conditioner tended to weigh my hair down.

Desert Essence 100% Pure Jojoba Oi- This oil is the main product I use upon leaving the shower while my hair is still wet and newly towel-dried.  I like to apply about two quarter-sizes of this product to the ends of my hair and use whatever is left on my hands to smooth over the crown of my hair.  I like this oil for the fact that it is moisturizing yet quickly drying.  I also appreciate that the initial nutty smell of the oil dissipates after only a few minutes of application.  I've also used this over dry skin on my hands and have love the fast absorbing quality just the same on my skin as on my hair.  For the price and quantity, what more could you ask for from this great, multi-tasked of a product?

John Masters Organics Deep Scalp Follicle Treatment and Volumizer-  I've finished half the bottle of this product and feel that I've used it long enough to offer a verdict for you all.  I'd definitely repurchase this product once I finish my current bottle.  Firstly, it's extremely fuss free to spritz this on my towel-dried hair and only takes a few seconds to work the product into the hair.  I allow my hair to air-dry and have no subsequent problems with any product being left in my hair or any sticky after-texture.  I've used this since the winter months of last year and can definitely say that it has helped with my hair fall-out.  I used to have so much hair fall out each week that my boyfriend would jokingly(endearingly I hope) comment that I shed more than his dogs.  I've noticed a slow but gradual improvement in that department ever since I began using this product and now I rarely shed hair( given that I do shed a few strands in the shower but that is biologically expected).  I personally attribute the improvement to this product but it may also have to do with any changes I may have had in lifestyle, eating, or other hair products but I don't believe I've changed those factors in my life all too much since beginning use of this product.

One Love Organics Healthy Locks Dry Shampoo- Lastly, we've come to the infamous Healthy Locks from cult favorite One Love Organics.  I initially had difficulty working with this dry shampoo because I wasn't using it properly.  I used to have second or third day hair, apply this straight on the scalp, and start working my fingers through hoping for an instantly perked up effect.  I've since learned the best way to apply this is to put a bit of powder in different sections and layers of my hair and let it sit while I put on my daily face(makeup in Vanessa speak).  I then gently brush my fingers through the areas I applied it once I have finished said face.  This powder absorbs easily and doesn't leave behind any white patches on my black hair.  I find that the volumizing and visually repairing effects quite amazing if used properly and I do like the clean scent.  However, my biggest qualm would be that I wished they had a pointed applicator/ spritzing device such as the Oscar Blandi powder dry shampoo.  I have to pour the powder onto my hair and dab it onto my hair each time I use this and it can become quite a mess.  I've also had difficulty traveling with this as the hole that allows the product to be poured out is never fully closed for the packaging I received. I love the product but dislike the packaging!

What's your current go-to haircare routine?  I'd love to know!

Big Love

Vanessa

  1. I really don't know how I lived without hair oils and dry shampoos when I was younger haha :) And the Cocopalm duo really do look lovely and I like the sound of the scent, perfect for summer :) xx

    1. I agree, Jana! I feel like I missed out on so much hair care AND skincare when I was younger. I also wasn't as knowledgable about this when I was younger either. They really sucked me in with the packaging!

  2. Would you say you prefer the Cocopalm shampoo to the Honeyce one? I was tempted to buy the Honeyce one based on your review, but maybe I should go with Cocopalm instead? Haha. And I should start using Jojoba oil on my ends, I'd never thought of doing that!

    1. Hey Catherine!
From my experience, both of those options performed really well! I find that Cocopalm gave me a bit more volume but I do prefer Honeyce's treatment/conditioner more since it is more moisturizing for my hair than the one from Cocopalm. I do think they're both great options though! I am unsure if you have any Japanese supermarkets near you but I've found that these products are cheaper there by about $5 than online!
