Tested: Onomie Bright Concealing Elixir ( Trotula )

I've always struggled with the right sleep-wake balance throughout my life.  I'm attributing this to being in school for almost 3/4th of my life thus far and just not catching enough sleep.  The little present that this lifestyle has left me are the two prominent circles under my eyes that I have to face everyday as I apply my makeup.  I've been looking for another heavier coverage option for an under eye concealer since I had run out of my old under eye concealer.  I'm so glad that I discovered Onomie and am even more impressed that they were able to offer such an amazing deal to sample their products before buying($3 sample with the $3 going back to purchase of first item).  This is a company that really stands behind the effectiveness of their product and isn't afraid to back it up.  The entire ethos of the company is deep rooted in the successful merge of skincare and makeup through plant-based and lab-based technology to create safe products without compromising efficacy.   How curious is it that I am turning to a company that is so well-studied to help with the exact problem that I've encountered through so much studying? Read on for a detailed breakdown of my thoughts and raves!

Consistency: This product has the perfect consistency for a concealer.  It works well for under-eyes specifically because it has a liquid consistency that spreads easily into a thin layer under the eyes.  It does not contain wax, so it does not tend to crease under the eyes as much as other usual under-eye concealers.  The exact tone that I received, Trotula, is perfect for concealing my dark circles as it has a bit of a salmon-tinge to it that helps combat the color of my under-eye circles.  Not only does it blend easily, it also dries quite quickly after patting it into place.  I love that I can quickly apply this in the morning and not worry about the creases or that it may melt off my face by the end of a long day.  The thin and light consistency is great for under eyes as well as for any of my blemishes.  It is very useful in covering up larger spots that may not be as flat since it never makes the cover-up process look cakey due to the thin texture.  For smaller spots, however, I find that I prefer my other concealer since this product does have that salmon pink tinge that does not help with my already red spot.

I have included the ingredients below.  Keep in mind that this is not a strictly clean list of ingredients but many of the items score a 3 on EWG and I personally do not mind as they have not claimed to be all natural and it is a product that has worked so well on me with some great ingredients to help with under-eyes to boot! The Night Sleeper Extract helps improve blood circulation which is the main culprit in those pesky under-eye circles.  Alfalfa Extract also helps with reducing inflammation and puffiness.  The inclusion of Vitamin C, E, and Caffeine are effective in waking up the eyes and improving the skin's delicate defensive barrier.

Experience:  I've been using the Bright Concealing Elixir for about 2 months now. I've thoroughly enjoyed using this product from the day I received the sample in the mail to this day! I apply this as the first step to my makeup application after using my primer by dabbing it on the eye with my clean fingertips and patting it in. It fully sets within about half a minute and I can choose to apply translucent powder on top or not since it does not necessarily need the powder.  I have worn it during my busy 10 hour days through the commute and downtown Los Angeles humidity with only a slight bit of creasing at the very edges of my eyes which I find extremely impressive.  I am unsure if that is due to the weather (humidity) or because I decided to apply powder on the day and was a bit too heavy handed in the process.  I do not have that issue on days when I am not trekking across Los Angeles or when I have shorter days of 6 hours.

This product does a phenomenal job at not only concealing my under-eyes but truly brightening them up and giving me a I-had-8-hours-of-sleep look even when I'm running on 5 hours. Onomie also claims to have results of a 90% improvement in dark circles after 56 days of use of the product.  I've use this product for about 60 days and can attest that it has helped with my dark circles.  My circles are definitely better than before in the sense that they are less dark/purple but it also depends on what week it is as I've been in testing season for a while now and they are obviously in better condition on days when I have more sleep.  Nevertheless, the circles themselves have lessened in dark tones and I've found that an even more significant improvement than the tone is the reduction of the small lines that I've had under my eyes.  These lines were always accentuated whenever I laughed and I definitely see a difference in my no-makeup days in the reduction of those thin, small lines under the eyes.

  1. Great review! Glad to hear it's working so great, it's definitely difficult to find something that works for under-eye circles. I heard/read a lot of amazing things about Studio78 concealer for that matter, but I haven't tried it myself :) xx

    1. Thank you, Liz!
I've also seen reviews for Studio78! My only concern is that they have such a limited color selection and I feel like their lightest shade is definitely too dark for fairer skin tones!

Thank you for reading! Big Love, Vanessa
